The immediacy and immateriality are the key goals and ideals of the internet. The Internet has created this whole new space for artists and their art to exist. While the change has only been in the past 20 years, the direction to which the art world has utilized the internet and the many capabilities have been incredible! Not only does the internet make art accessible to and reach more people across the world, but it has introduced artists to a multitude of new art mediums. Digital art is a “newer” medium that has come with the introduction of the internet. Digital art has developed many purposes. These days people use digital art to influence others, start conversations, promote certain topics, make people laugh, or even initiate change. Additionally, as a ceramic artist, it has become apparent to me that, in fact, many potters and sculpturists utilize social media as a means of getting their art out there. The internet has intertwined itself and become a part of their business practice, in that, many artists utilize it to sell their work and make a living. The internet has opened the door to more possibilities for artists, increasing the size of their audience and creating communities surrounding their own art and those who practice similar mediums. I believe there is still a lot to learn when it comes to the internet and the many capabilities. As we continue to advance technology throughout time, I believe the world for artists is only destined to be more inclusive, welcoming, and accessible.
